Here's why Pakistanis love 'chai' so much




Today ‘International Tea Day’ is being observed globally. This day holds a great significance among chai-lovers.

This day is observed annually on May 21 and was first recognised by the United Nations in 2019. The theme for this day is said to be – ‘Tea and Fair Trade.’

This day may be celebrated to raise public awareness about the cultural and economic significance of tea around the world but for Pakistanis, tea is something that is considered to be an emotion for us.

For Pakistanis, tea, also known as chai, is a must-have drink in the morning, evening, and at night as well. There are countless reasons why Pakistanis love tea and here are some mentioned under:

Tea is a mood!

Chai runs in the blood of Pakistanis. As per research, coffee boosts the brain and helps you stay focused but tea boosts the soul.

Mood swings on Monday mornings, have some tea.

Bored? Have some tea.

Unexpected guests? Let’s share a cup of tea.

Feeling sick? Chai is the medicine.

It’s raining? Chai is the perfect companion.

Tired? Chai.

Sad? Chai.

Happy? Chai.

There is no class discrimination when it comes to chai. Everyone — from the elite to the middle class and labourers. Inshort, Pakistanis’ day is incomplete without a strong cup of tea, be it morning, evening, or night, we need chai.
