Pak Suzuki Motor Company (PSMC) had initially announced the discontinuation of the second generation Suzuki Swift last year through a notification. In the notification, the company stated that it will produce 2,432 units of the hatchback from August 2020 to August 2021 after which the Suzuki Swift will be discontinued permanently. It further added that it will make 668 DLX NAV variants and 2423 AT NAV variants during this period.

According to the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA), the second generation Suzuki Swift also suffered a huge decrease in sales from 5,509 units being sold in 2018-19 to 2,316 units sold in 2020-21 while the COVID-19 pandemic hampered sales in 2019-20 when Suzuki only sold 1,828 units of Swift.

The decline in people’s interest in the vehicle could be because the company made no significant changes to the Suzuki Swift during the 12 years of its life here in Pakistan. Meanwhile, the company introduced other more affordable hatchback options like the new Suzuki Cultus, which has been extremely popular. Furthermore, the vehicle was met with competition from other new entrants in the market, such as the Kia Picanto that was able to attract a lot of customers despite having a smaller 1000cc engine option.

Even though the second generation Suzuki Swift has been discontinued by the company, there are reports that the fourth generation Suzuki Swift will be launching in Pakistan. However, the company has not made any official announcement regarding these rumors.

The 4th Generation Suzuki Swift brings several changes over the 2nd Generation. The vehicle has a completely new design with more state-of-the-art features, including several different engine options. However, we will have to wait and see what Pak Suzuki Motor Company (PSMC) has planned for the 1300cc category in the future.
