Abdul Sattar Edhi being remembered on 4th death anniversary

Famous social activist Abdul Sattar Edhi, who dedicated his life for humanity, passed away four years ago today, but Edhi, who served humanity indiscriminately for decades, is still alive in the heart of every Pakistani.

Abdul Sattar Edhi was born on February 28, 1928, in Bantuwa, Gujarat, India. He came to Pakistan with his family in 1947 after the partition of India and settled in Karachi.

Abdul Sattar Edhi had learned to help others before him at an early age. This proved to be the key to success for Mr. Edhi in later life and then Edhi spent 65 years of his life in the service of suffering humanity.

The great social leader began his services in 1951 by establishing a dispensary. Abdul Sattar Edhi set up his first welfare center with just Rs 5,000 and then set up the Edhi Trust.

The Edhi Foundation’s ambulance service is considered to be the largest ambulance service in the world, serving people in every city in Pakistan. For this reason, Edhi was named the world’s largest ambulance service in the Guinness Book of World Records in 1997.
