Imran Khan is disqualified by ECP in the Toshakhana reference - Latest Posts

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) issued its unanimous decision in the Toshakhana reference filed against former prime minister Imran Khan on Friday. They found him ineligible and declared the Mianwali NA-95 seat vacant.

Imran Khan was only disqualified by the ECP for the current term from the seat he won in 2018 that became vacant after the regime change on April 9, it should be noted here. Imran Khan could re-enter the National Assembly by taking the oath on any seat won on October 16 or by running in the upcoming general elections.

In its ruling, the ECP recommended that criminal charges be brought against Imran Khan, disqualifying him in accordance with article 63 1-P.

On September 19, ECP reserved the decision.

A number of PTI leaders, including Fawad Chaudhry, Maleeka Bokhari, Shireen Mazari, Asad Umar, and others, had their access to the ECP building earlier revoked. Later, some of them were successful in getting inside the structure.

Ejaz Chaudhry, a PTI senator, PTI workers, and the local Islamabad Police are said to have gotten into a fight.

Prior to announcing the verdict, the ECP requested in an urgent letter to Deputy Commissioner Islamabad the deployment of more security personnel.
