Death toll climbs to 40




ANKARA: The death toll of workers who were killed in a blast at a coal mine in northern Türkiye increased to 40, officials of the Turkish interior minister said on Saturday.

The Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said that 11 wounded workers are under treatment in hospitals, and that 58 of 110 miners had been rescued and there was still uncertainty about some of them.

The Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Donmez said the fire that broke out in a gallery after the mine blast is largely under control.

It may be recalled that a methane blast at a coal mine in small coal mining town of Amasra on Turkey’s Black Sea coast, killing dozens of workers and trapping dozens of others hundreds of meters underground.
