In a first, PEMRA fines ARY for airing transphobic remarks made by Iman Aly [VIDEO]
The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Council of Complaints has passed a well-articulated judgment on the insensitive remarks made by model Iman Aly on the transgender community.
Headed by Barrister Ahmed Pansota, the Pemra Council of Complaints imposed a fine of PKR 100,000 on ARY Digital for airing transphobic remarks made by Iman during one of their transmissions.

In June this year, the actress compared herself with a transgender person and called herself unattractive in an interview hosted by Vasay Chaudhry.
Explaining why she can’t take her selfies, Aly said, “I can’t take my photos. Whatever side I try, I think ‘aye haye, khusra. ‘
The Khuda Ke Liye actor’s remarks garnered criticism from social media users and the trans community. Iman’s statement targeted the entire Transgender community, violating Pakistan’s Code of Conduct and Constitution.
Complaint
Under Section 26 of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Ordinance, 2002, a self-explanatory complaint was received from the first transgender lawyer, M. Kashif (Nisha Rao), against television network ARY Digital.
The complaint read, “A guest named Miss Iman Aly in the ARY Digital program ‘Ghabrana Mana Hai’ passed extremely insensitive and demeaning remarks against the transgender community, which had upset the entire community.”
