Shafqat Mahmood Announces Fee Waiver During Closure Of Private Educational Institutes Due To Third Wave of COVID-19

The federal minister for education and professional training, Shafqat Mahmood has announced a fee waiver during the closure of private educational institutes. In this regard, a notification has been issued to inform the concerned authorities. According to the notification, the private educational institutes are informed to grant 20% concession in the monthly fee of the students. The decision will be effective from April 2021 till the reopening of the institutes. However, it is pertinent to mention here that this new policy regarding the reduction in the tuition fee will not be applicable to the institute charging fee less than Rs. 8,000/- per month. The decision has been approved by the ministry for federal education and professional training (PE & PT) and Private educational institutions regulatory authority (PEIRA). 

Fee Concession Policy

The fee concession policy has been announced by the education minister owing to a spike in the number of coronavirus cases. Due to the third wave of COVID-19, the educational institutes have been closed and on the directives issued by the government, the students have been attending the online classes in order to complete their coursework before the conduction of the exams. During the closure of the educational institutes, the students are required to pay less fee due to the ongoing situation of coronavirus pandemic. Further the fee challan already issued or paid for April/May 2021 in contrary to the mention fee concession policy should be adjusted in the fee of next months.

Decision About Exams

Moreover, the education minister has also clarified that this year the students will not be promoted with the exams. The board authorities will hold the exams and the schedule will be provided to the candidates. The students are informed to focus on the studies without wasting their time. It has been also said that the grading system is not effective to evaluate the performance of the students like the previous year the students will not be awarded grades based on the promotion policy.
