In a recent episode of Ishq Ramazan, during the segment Andaaz-e-bayan (a poetry stand-off), two contestants were competing in the semi-finals. One of the contestants narrated a verse by John Elia, and Sahir Lodhi started questioning the accuracy of the verse.

Even the judges voiced doubts about whether the stanza was correct and whether it was the work of Urdu poet John Elia. However, rather than confirming the verse’s accuracy via the internet and clearing the air, they spent over a minute trying to strong-arm the contestant, pushing him to explain, ‘What does that even mean?’

While others might have moved past the criticism, the critique took a massive toll on the young contestant, as this was the competition’s semi-final. The whole ordeal affected the contestant’s performance review even though he was not in the wrong.

Sahir Lodhi was rather rude towards the young contestant. One Twitter user even called the host’s treatment bullying. Netizens started posting about the incident and called for PEMRA’s involvement in the matter.

Here’s what the Twitterati have to say about the incident:

The majority called for PEMRA to take action:

Many posted correct versions to highlight that the contestant wasn’t at fault:

Some Twitter users just showcased plain anger:

Public complaints like these against immoral content usually attract PEMRA to take action. However, only time will tell what the watchdog decides to do about the rude behavior of hosts with contestants on live shows.
