Punjab Bans purchase of new government vehicles
Government departments in Punjab will not be allowed to buy new vehicles, five-star hotels will not have government-funded workshops and seminars.
The Punjab government has issued special instructions to curb unnecessary expenditure in the province under the austerity drive.
Renovation of houses of ministers and officials, including discretionary funds of ministers, has been banned. Government departments will not be able to buy air conditioners and new vehicles.
Punjab Finance Secretary Abdullah Sanbal has issued a notification regarding the savings scheme.
According to the notification, the use of discretionary funds by all provincial ministers has been banned. The houses of ministers and officials will not be renovated.
Government departments will not be able to buy new air conditioners and new vehicles. Government-funded workshops, seminars and upgradation of posts in government departments in five-star hotels have been banned till further notice.
According to the notification, foreign visits and medical treatment of ministers and government officials have also been banned. If absolutely necessary, only with the recommendation of the Cabinet Savings Committee and with the approval of the Chief Minister will it be allowed to buy new vehicles and go on foreign tours.
The notification directs strict implementation of the said orders.
