PM contacts Abdullah Abdullah, discusses Afghan peace talks

Prime Minister Imran Khan and Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, Chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation of Afghanistan, had a telephone conversation in which bilateral relations were discussed.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, Prime Minister Imran Khan reiterated his commitment to strengthen fraternal relations with Afghanistan and cooperation in all fields.

The Prime Minister said that there is no military solution to the Afghan conflict, the only way to resolve the Afghan conflict is through political settlement.

According to the statement, the Prime Minister also highlighted Pakistan’s positive role in the Afghan peace process and said that Afghan leaders should take full advantage of this historic opportunity for lasting peace and development in Afghanistan.

He further said that Pakistan wants to hold inter-Afghan talks as soon as possible.

The Prime Minister also invited Dr. Abdullah Abdullah to visit Pakistan soon to consult on the Afghan peace process and to promote closer ties between the two countries.

It may be recalled that a seven-member delegation of  Afghan Taliban led by Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar also met Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi in Islamabad in which the issue of Afghan peace process was discussed.
