A delegation of Afghan Taliban led by Mullah Brothers Met Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood
A delegation of Afghan Taliban led by Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar called on Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi at the Foreign Ministry.
On arrival at the Foreign Ministry, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi welcomed the seven-member Afghan Taliban delegation.
According to a Foreign Office spokesman, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi briefed the Afghan Taliban delegation on possible threats to sabotage the peace process, while the Afghan Taliban delegation thanked the Foreign Minister for Pakistan’s continued efforts and support in the peace process.
The Afghan Taliban delegation also briefed the Foreign Minister on the implementation of the Taliban-US agreement.
Talking on the occasion, Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that the Afghan leadership is expected to take full advantage of the peace agreement for the establishment of peace. Pakistan wishes for the early convening of inter-Afghan dialogue for peace and stability in the region.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi further said that Pakistan and Afghanistan have long-standing religious, historical and geographical fraternal ties and the international community needs to make efforts for the economic stability of Afghanistan.
He said that Pakistan would continue its conciliatory efforts for lasting peace and stability in the region, including the Afghan peace process, adding that Pakistan had always maintained that a lasting solution to the Afghan problem was possible only through Afghan-led dialogue.
The Foreign Minister said that Pakistan has been playing its conciliatory role in the Afghan peace process under a shared responsibility.
