Yasir Hussain, other Pakistani celebs upset as Esra Bilgiç becomes ambassador of local brands
The historical Turkish drama Diriliş: Ertuğrul took over the country by storm, ever since it started airing in Pakistan. Cult followers and fans of the series were over the moon when they heard the series’ cast express their wish to visit Pakistan.
The female lead of the Turkish drama, Halime Sultan, played by Esra Bilgiç, is the Pakistani audience’s favorite. Recently, Esra Bilgiç revealed that she would be endorsing three Pakistani brands. One of these brands is QMobile (Pakistani mobile brand). The mobile company announced that the Turkish actress would be the brand ambassador of their View Max Pro series.

Following the announcement by QMobile, Yasir Hussain, a prominent comic role actor, screenwriter, playwright, and host, expressed his disappointment and anger over QMobile’s decision. Yasir had not been a fan of Turkish cinema taking over Pakistan’s entertainment industry from the beginning. He was very critical of the government’s decision to air Diriliş: Ertuğrul on PTV.
As soon as Pakistani brands started to get captivated by Turkish cinema and Turkish actors too, Yasir took to Instagram and said, “Don’t you think Pakistani brands should have Pakistani brand ambassadors? Neither Turkish nor Indian.”
Yasir Hussain further questioned why QMobile did not approach Pakistani actors like Mahira Khan, Saba Qamar, Yumna Zaidi, Hira Mani, and more to be their brand ambassadors. He clarified why he did not add his wife Iqra Aziz’s name in the list by saying that she is already a brand ambassador for another mobile phone company.
The actresses Aiman Khan and Minal Khan backed Yasir’s perspective by sharing his words on their profiles and commenting.
It is to be noted that this is not the first time that Pakistani artists have criticized local brands’ decisions to feature international stars in their campaigns.
When things were cordial between India and Pakistan, Bollywood celebrities became a part of brand promotions and Pakistani superstars highly condemned this collaboration.
