Detailed Verdict on Umar Akmal case
Pakistan Cricket Board has issued a detailed verdict in the case of national cricketer Umar Akmal.
According to a detailed decision, Justice (retd) Fazal Miran Chauhan has imposed a three-year ban on Umar Akmal for violating both the charges included in the PCB Anti-Corruption Code, which will come into implementation from February 20, 2020, the day the cricketer is suspended. Both the disqualification periods will be implemented simultaneously while Umar Akmal will now be eligible to participate in cricket activities again on 19 February 2023.
The detailed verdict states that Umar Akmal was issued a notice of charge on March 17 for violating Article 2.4.4 of the PCB Anti-Corruption Code in two separate cases for not appearing before the Anti-Corruption Tribunal. The PCB referred the case of Umar Akmal to the Chairman Disciplinary Panel on April 9.
Disciplinary Panel Chairman Justice (retd) Fazal Miran Chauhan in his detailed judgment remarked that apparently Umar Akmal was neither seeking remorse nor was he ready to apologize for his mistake which confirms that the he failed to fulfill his responsibilities under Article 2.4.4 of the IPC.
The remarks said that the allegations against Umar Akmal were substantiated in view of his failure to immediately inform the PCB’s Vigilance and Security Department about the liaison.
The written verdict states that in Charge No. 2, Umar Akmal failed to provide details of contacts to the PCB’s Vigilance and Security Department regarding his involvement in corruption under the Code of Conduct for PSL 2020 matches.
